How The Town Got Its Name:

Tuburan got its name from the Cebuano dialect “Tubod” or spring when translated in English language. Springs are very common in the place where the early residents derived their potable water for household use.

History:

Tuburan was founded by Don Marioano Montebon in year 1851. The founder was hailed from Sogod, Cebu and made his residence in the place. The town proper was first located at the Daan Lungson which is across the Adela River, north of the present Poblacion. As the site was relocated, the former place is called Daang Lungsod or the former town proper.

Before the Spaniards came to dominate the land, the natives were already doing business, trading with Asian traders. And, during the Spanish regime, Tuburan is one of Visayas’ highly-organized towns that reaped the fruits of prosperity.

Tuburan is the birthplace of a revolutionary leader, Arcadio Maxilom. The library in the Tuburan Museum is named after him.
