Main sources of income for the town are light industries and agriculture. Real estate developers have relocated to the are for residential villages and others.

Thanks to its close proximity to the thriving cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Talisay, Minglanilla has became a 1st class municipality, plus part of the metropolitan area informally called the Metro Cebu which contributed a lot to the flourishing of the town’s industry and status.

History:

Before the town became a separate political identity, Minglanilla was once part of its adjacent town, the municipality of Naga. The place was locally and formerly known as “buat”, a local dialect for “bulad” or dried fish.

According to the church accounts, the municipality was founded around year 1858 by a certain Father Fernando Sanchez. Later, Fr. Sanchez renamed the place into Minglanilla, after a place in Spain.

Like other municipalities, Minglanilla has one of the most splendid churches in Cebu. It is dedicated to Immaculate Heart of Mary and was built from 1880 to 1886. It is a Gothic confection with flame-like arches, spires, flying buttresses and painted domes. It is one of the town’s historical attractions.

If there’s one thing to be boastful about the town is no other than being the “Sugat Capital” of the south because of its festival first known as “Sugat” which recalls the resurrection of Jesus Christ as He rose from the dead and meets His mother. Not only it attracts the people of the neighboring towns, but it draws thousands of faithful as well as curious believers all over the province. Starting 2005, Sugat has evolved into a day-long festival and is now called as the “Kabanhawan Festival”, celebrated every Easter Sundays.

One of the barangays of Minglanilla is blessed with natural cool springs, known as “tubod” where the name of the barangay was derived. These springs were of great help to the people around the area.

Now, the town can accommodate families in vacation with their resorts such as the Tubod Flowing Water Resort and the Palm Beach Resort which boast of the latest state-of-the-art amenities, offering good places to relax and unwind.
