Kawasan Falls, raw from commercialism, has quickly become one of the getaway destinations for vacations, occasions or simple tourist visitations. Located in the southern part of Cebu, Kawasan Falls rest lazily in Badian, in the barangay Matutinao.
Kawasan Falls is located 130 kilometers from the main Cebu City. A bus ride will took three to four hours before reaching your destination.
Though Cebu has lots of waterfalls to indulge upon, Kawasan Falls is one of a kind with its three level cascades of crystal clear waters. It is surrounded by different kinds of tropical trees and plants. Even just the lush greenery is worth the walk.
Actually, it is a hierarchy of falls. The first one is the most crowded. But as you go higher and deeper, the scenery becomes wilder and is more impressive. No noise, no commotion but same clear waters and refreshing falls.
From entrance, a walk uphill for 30 minutes (depending on you pace) in a narrow, very rocky road before you reach the first and the largest falls. While trekking, appreciate the wonder of nature in its surroundings, the rare tropical plants growing there and the unblemished cool mountain breeze.
Wooden brides are built in order to cross the small streams of freshwater from the falls without wetting your feet or your pair of traveling boots. The nearby Children Spring, a small resort is especially designed for dynamic kids.
Along the way, there are several souvenir shops selling mementos to tourist such as beaded necklace, bracelets and other accessories as keepsake for the once in a lifetime visit in Kawasan Falls. T-shirts with Kawasan prints are also available for sale.
Since Kawasan Falls are very popular among locals and foreigners, it is usually jam-packed especially in the first cascade. Most families were commonly seen having fun, swimming, diving, dancing with loud stereos etc. It is safer for children and far from bruises and injuries for further hiking.
The Kawasan Falls is not actually an exclusively-owned attraction. Even though restaurants are visible in close proximity, you can bring your own food if you want. Cottages and tables are for rent as well as life vests and rafts. A shower massage under the falling waters finds it very relaxing and a Tarzan swing is such a treat for adventure. Overnight accommodation is not a problem for there are rooms ready for rental.
Another 15-minute walk uphill is the second falls. The surroundings are getting more and more exciting and wilder. Tracks are getting worse but if adventure is what you’re into, you will surely like it. The water is much fresher, cleaner and less crowded. There are no diving boards but you can scrabble into the high rocks and jump like expert divers.
A further walk and you’ll reach the third cascade. People are less likely succeeded in reaching here because of some possible mishaps along the way. But it is quieter, more peaceful and relaxing. The water is at its cleanest because it is nearest to the source.
The whole area is pretty and fascinating but not that very expensive. An entrance fee of 10.00 is not a burden and foods are available if you just want to relax. But for a more wholesome trip, do not go there in weekends or holidays for you will surely cover your ears due to the loud sounds of ecstatic vacationers.
Its raw splendor has attracted tourists and vacationers; locals and foreigners alike. It is peaceful and relaxing and far from city hullabaloo. It is ideal for family getaways, picnics, group friend adventures and outings. This wonderful work of God leaves everybody beautiful impressions.
